4.  Pondicherry

5.  Madurai

6.  Tanjore (Thanjavur)


The Cholas built more than 70 temples in Thanjavur, with the most outstanding one being the Brihadeswara Temple. It's a surprising view to watch. Built exclusively out of stone, its arena rises to larger than 60 meters. It is also famous for its dramatic Tanjore paintings. 

7.  Chettinad


Known for its antique palaces and fiery curries, Tamil Nadu's Chettinad area is situated about 2 hours drive from Madurai and Tanjore. It can be discovered on a day tour. Now the mansion is changed into the hotel.

8.  Ooty
